If someone asked you, are you a reader what would you say?  I would reply, yes I am reader,   I read for pleasure and necessity both.   I read daily because I am forced to do so (signs and labels).  Also, because I LOVE to read (books of all sorts)!  I read for pleasure any chance I get!  I also read to better my future, that is why I have become a student.

If someone asked me, what inspired me to read? I would say,  I think it started when I was 13 or so in Colorado when reading became an escape for me.  I found I could lose myself in characters and adventure.

For this post we are asked the following question.  What is a key moment in your life that has shaped your attitude about reading?  I hope you enjoy my response and maybe even connect with it.

Moments. Everyday. All around me. Reading

  1. I am sorry that your family life growing up was so tough, however I think it is cool that you were able to escape it by reading. I also found it super cool that you have children and are able to read to them! I am looking forward to do so as a parent as I believe it is a special time between a parent and their kids. At the beginning, you said you read everything through signs, TV, and the Internet and I have never thought about that before. As far as books, what is your favorite genre to read for pleasure?

  2. I am so glad that as a young child you could find comfort in a book. For a lot of kids if their parents don’t make them read they won’t typically pick up a book. I as well find that I lose myself in characters and the plot. Sometimes it even feels like I’m in the book! I find this to be one of the most pleasant things about reading. It sounds like you have had to overcome a lot. Do you think these outcomes will affect you as a teacher?

    1. Hello, The “outcomes” you mentioned above I think you are asking about how my past will affect my ability to teach?
Yes it does affect my attitude toward poverty and it drives the compassion in me! Embracing my past and bringing it with me helps me to understand children and their ability to succeed!

Thank you for asking a difficult question, I hope you have a great weekend.

  3. I am working on becoming more of a reader. When I was younger, I really didn’t care to read, but now that I am in college, I definitely see the value in reading. I am now trying to catch up on the years of reading that I missed out on.

  4. Wow! I sure loved reading your little 5-Image Story. I do believe that I became a reader for some of the very same reasons. A way to escape my own problems, however minute they were. When my children were young, I’d read to them and once they were asleep,I would read the books that interested me.
I find reading a stress relief. My mother has been gravely ill the last month and last week I spend my time reading her the 30 children’s books. Even as sick as she was, we were connected through the stories. It brought a smile to her face. It made me forget even where we were at. A little piece of heaven.
